Scar Upon Your Face

When I woke up this morning

I felt something in my skin

I saw your hair upon the pillow

And the cleft upon your chin

Your eyes opened and they found me

Like a synonym for grace

And your wild beauty was revealed

In the scar upon your face

When I woke up this morning

And I heard you say that word to me

You looked upon your Jewish lover

And you called him \"habibi\"

I know there is a future

I think you're proof that that's the case

I saw it on your lips

And on the scar upon your face

When I woke up this morning

I saw the ring upon your hand

Your only piece of evidence

From a long-forsaken land

It takes me to a village

In another time and place

Like the depth within your eyes

And the scar upon your face

When I woke up this morning

Lost somehow in the deep

I recalled the sound

Of you crying in your sleep

Crying for your mama

And this savage human race

I could only kiss your cheek

And the scar upon your face
